Overview

Nourishing Neighbors

Focus: Fighting food insecurity and ensuring at-risk children, adults, seniors, and families have access to food they need to succeed.

Mission: The Albertsons Companies Foundation's Nourishing Neighbors program is dedicated to eradicating hunger in neighborhoods where the company operates.

    Program History

  • Established in 2014
  • Raised and donated over $300 million since inception
  • Enabled more than 1 billion meals to be donated to communities, including disaster-affected areas

  • Providing nutritious breakfasts for children
  • Holiday dinners
  • School pantries
  • Long-term hunger solutions including connecting people to federal meal programs (SNAP, WIC)

    Eligibility

  • Organization Type: 501(c)(3) charities OR public K-12 schools
  • Location Requirement: Must serve communities where Albertsons Companies operates
  • Employee Sponsor: Required for California, Hawaii, and Reno-area Nevada applications; recommended for all other locations

    What Foundation Does NOT Fund

  • Individuals or for-profit organizations
  • Political organizations or activities
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Capital or building campaigns
  • Advocacy programs
  • Meetings, conferences, or workshops
  • Sports teams or athletic competitions
  • Other foundations or granting organizations
  • Fundraising dinners, galas, and events

How to Apply

1. Research Opportunities: Visit the Nourishing Neighbors page to look for specific RFP opportunities and invitation codes

2. Complete Online Application: Fill out the online application form at the foundation's website

3. Provide Employee Sponsor Information:
- You will be asked if you have an employee sponsor
- Provide the sponsor's name if available
- The foundation will contact the employee to learn more about your organization
- Employee sponsor is typically a volunteer, board member, or someone who has been helped by your organization
- Required for: California, Hawaii, and Reno-area Nevada applications
- Recommended for: All other locations
- If unable to identify an employee, speak to your local Store Manager about sponsorship

4. Application Submission: The online system will triage requests and send them to the appropriate geographic team for consideration

5. Timeline: Allow approximately 12 weeks from the close of the application cycle to receive a decision on grant status

  • Outside RFP Process: Limited funds available for applications submitted outside formal RFP cycles
