Overview

FPPS Summer Planning Grants for Teachers

Status: Open for 2026

Geographic Scope: Portland Public Schools (ME, US)

Purpose: Support teachers and other PPS staff who want to work alone or in teams over the summer months to engage in curriculum planning, school team collaboration, or other summer work intended to advance new approaches to student learning or otherwise prepare for the upcoming school year.

Eligibility:

  • Portland Public Schools staff (teachers and other staff)

  • Can apply individually or in teams

  • Applicants must have school principal or district leadership approval
  • What is Funded:

  • Staff time only at $40/hour per district rate

  • Maximum $800 per individual

  • Maximum $5,000 per team

  • Each team member limited to 20 hours of work
  • What is NOT Funded:

  • Materials

  • Conferences

  • Supports work on curriculum planning, school team collaboration, or other summer initiatives

  • All grade levels K-12, PAE eligible

  • All subject areas eligible

  • Work must advance new approaches to student learning or prepare for upcoming school year

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Part 1: Background
    1. Enter grant proposal name
    2. Identify grant lead applicant and job title
    3. Provide lead applicant email and phone number
    4. List co-applicants if applicable
    5. Select school(s) involved
    6. Select grade level(s) impacted
    7. Estimate number of students impacted
    8. Identify subject area focus

    Part 2: Proposal Description
    1. Describe the summer work proposed and explain why it is needed (be specific)
    2. Describe how the work will impact student learning
    3. Explain how the work furthers the district's strategic plan
    4. Optional: Upload additional supporting document (max 300 MB)

    Part 3: Budget
    1. Provide total funding request (do not exceed $5,000 per team or $800 per person; omit dollar signs)
    2. State proposed number of team members
    3. List each staff member's name, title, and estimated hours (maximum 20 hours per person)
    4. Calculate total hours and verify against budget request
    5. Indicate whether you will accept partial funding (yes/no)

    Part 4: Signatures
    1. Applicant provides electronic signature (type full name)
    2. Principal or District Leadership Director name (demonstrates they reviewed and support the application)

  • School and grade level information

  • Detailed proposal narrative (summer work description, impact on student learning, alignment with district strategic plan)
