Overview: California Casualty provides grants to help Maine public school sports programs in need. Named for California Casualty Chairman Emeritus Tom Brown, the program recognizes that teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship help develop high achievers in academics and in life.

Eligibility

• Middle schools and high schools
• Public schools only
• Maine schools

Purpose

• Support for athletics programs affected by tight budgets
• Equipment and uniform purchases

Geographic Scope

• Maine (and nationwide through parent program)

Background

• Since inception in 2011, more than $660,000 has been awarded to approximately 600 schools across the nation
• Previous Maine recipients include Lewiston High School and Woodland Consolidated School (each received $1,000)
• In 2018/2019 academic year, 79 public middle and high schools in 32 states shared $83,000 in total awards
