California Casualty Music and Arts Grant

Funder: California Casualty (in partnership with NEA affiliates)

Overview: California Casualty's Music and Arts Grants help pay for art materials, music and other necessities to foster creativity in schools. The program recognizes the importance of music and arts education for children's development and addresses budget cuts that have reduced or eliminated arts education at many schools.

  • Band
  • Dance
  • Film
  • Theater
  • Computer arts and graphics
  • Any K-12 curriculum that employs art for learning

    Eligible Applicants

  • Educators at public K-12 schools
  • Must be a current member, or referred by a current member, of:
  • - State NEA affiliates (including Maine Education Association) - ACSA, CASE, COSA, KASA, NASA, or UASSP

    Use of Funds

  • Must be used to subsidize music and arts programs or projects in the classroom
  • Art materials, music instruments, uniforms, robes, sketchbooks, and other necessary items

    Geographic Scope

  • Public K-12 schools nationwide

    Background

  • Pilot program in 2018 helped 50 programs at 46 schools in Kansas, Minnesota and Washington
  • Studies show arts education enhances students' brain development, creativity, and classroom involvement
  • Arts curriculum reduces disciplinary issues and dropout rates
