Union Plus Scholarship Program

The Union Plus Scholarship Program provides scholarships to union members, their spouses, and dependent children to help fund educational expenses.

Geographic Scope: United States

Eligibility:

• Union members
• Spouses of union members
• Dependent children of union members
• No requirement to participate in a Union Plus credit card program to be eligible
• Must be accepted into an accredited college or university, community college, recognized technical or trade school, or graduate school at the time the award is issued
• Graduate school students are also eligible

Award Information:

• Total awards available: $150,000 annually
• Individual award amounts vary
• Program has distributed over $2.8 million since 1992

How the Program Works:

• Applicants must demonstrate academic ability
• Awards presented annually through the Union Plus Education Foundation
• Funding provided by HSBC, issuer of the Union Plus Credit Card

Application Process

How to Apply:

1. Download application from UnionPlus.org
2. Alternatively, send a postcard with:
   • Your name
   • Return address
   • Telephone number
   • Indicate that you are a member of the Boilermakers union
   • Mail to: Union Plus Education Foundation, c/o Union Privilege, P.O. Box 34800, Washington, DC 20043-4800

Required Materials:

• Completed application form
• Essay (maximum 500 words)
• Proof of acceptance to eligible educational institution

Essay Requirements:

• Must describe career goals
• Must detail relationship with the union movement
• Must explain why applicant deserves a union scholarship
• Maximum length: 500 words

Application Deadline: January 31 (annually)
