Mark Langan Apprentice Achievement Award

Overview: An award recognizing apprentices who demonstrate commitment to the Boilermaker trade, established through a memorial donation by the children of the late Mark Langan.

  • Must demonstrate:

  • - Commitment to the Boilermaker trade

    - Good attendance at union meetings
    - Strong work ethic on the job
    - Good performance in apprenticeship school
    - Respect from co-workers

  • First recipient: Mike McMullin (December 1, 2010)
  • Background: The award was established through a $5,000 memorial donation from Clinton Langan and Shelley Herrick, children of the late Mark Langan. Mark Langan was a Boilermakers member since 1969, serving as Local 555's recording secretary and president (1986-2002). He was instrumental in constructing the lodge's first in-house welding and training facilities and was actively involved in union events throughout his life. Mark Langan died April 10, 2010. Local 555 was chartered in 1954 and has jurisdiction in Saskatchewan and northwestern Ontario.
