Teacher Externship Program

An innovative initiative supported by grant funding from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) designed to enhance Career and Technical Education (CTE) in middle and high schools throughout Dallas County.

Geographic Scope: Dallas County, Texas

Target Participants:

• CTE educators
• School counselors
• Middle and high school teachers

Industry Focus Areas:

• Aerospace
• Business Administration
• Construction
• Hospitality
• Logistics
• Manufacturing

Program Details:

• Up to 140 educators will participate
• Each externship is 20 hours (five days, four hours each)
• Participants spend time at participating local companies
• Educators observe day-to-day operations
• Learn key skills needed in each industry
• Collaborate with professionals to enhance curriculum alignment with current industry demands

Funding Source: Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) grant

Purpose: Bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical, real-world industry skills; ensure student education is aligned with industry needs

Application Process

For CTE Educators and Counselors:

1. Complete the Externship Application for Teachers and Counselors (available on WFSDallas website)

For Businesses Interested in Hosting:

1. Complete the business application to host an extern (available on WFSDallas website)
2. Identify available positions and timeframes
3. Designate mentor/supervisor for extern
4. Agree to host educator for 20 hours (five days, four hours each)
