Overview

Google STAR Fiber-Optics Project

Overview: A phased, multi-level training program designed to upskill underrepresented job seekers in the fiber-optics trade, with funding from Google.

Geographic Scope: Dallas County, Texas; focused on communities where Google is expanding its data center operations.

  • Since January 2023, WFSDallas has been a service provider and recipient of funding

  • Five successful cohorts totaling 42 enrolled participants

  • Strategic partnerships with employers including ABLE Communications, E2 Optics, and Real Network Services

  • Employment outcomes:

  • - Cohort 1 (Feb–Mar 2023): 85% employment rate
    - Cohort 2 (June–Aug 2023): 60% employment rate
    - Cohort 3 (Oct–Nov 2023): 87.5% employment rate
    - Cohort 4 (July–Sept 2024): 63.6% employment rate
    - Cohort 5 (Feb–Mar 2025): Focused on veterans
