Overview

The Alpha State Texas Educational Foundation (ASTEF), affiliated with the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, provides Aspiring Educator Grants to women in Texas to help them complete a bachelor's degree in education and/or Texas teacher certification (including alternative certification). Open to the public: the applicant must NOT be a member of DKG, but must be sponsored by a DKG member in Texas. The award is $500 for a 3-hour award and up to $1,000 for a 6-hour award; alternative-certification awards are a one-time amount not to exceed $500. Recipients of 3-/6-hour awards may receive a grant for up to four years total but must reapply each year; ASTEF has awarded ~$10,000/year since 2013. (ASTEF's Project Stipends and TSO scholarships are restricted to DKG members and are excluded as member benefits.)
