Overview

Pilot Community Tourism Grant Program (PCTG)

Overview: Montana Department of Commerce (MDOC) five-year initiative to help neighborhoods throughout Western Montana improve tourism infrastructure, inspire cultural heritage projects, and create visitor-ready experiences through collaborative, multi-town approach.

Program Type: Five-year initiative (developed to support multiple communities)

Geographic Scope: Western Montana, with focus on rural and under-visited areas. Lake, Sanders, and Mineral Counties, as well as the Flathead Indian Reservation.

Current Recipients: City of Ronan

Focus Areas:

  • Improve tourism infrastructure

  • Inspire cultural heritage projects

  • Create visitor-ready experiences

  • Collaborative approach involving multiple towns and partners
  • Program Goals:

  • Shift narrative from 'passing through' to 'staying and exploring'

  • Increase visitor spending

  • Drive business growth

  • Create job creation

  • Develop long-term tourism model
  • Ronan Specific Outcomes:

  • Downtown sidewalk improvements

  • Updated lighting

  • Addition of crosswalks

  • Downtown engineering reports and facelift

  • Facade Improvement Grant (FIG) program launch
  • Partners: Local businesses, community leaders, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes
