North Texas Cares - Phase One (COVID-19 Response)

Overview: A joint initiative of 15+ North Texas organizations including The Dallas Foundation created to provide emergency funding for nonprofits responding to COVID-19. A single common application streamlined the process for organizations seeking emergency funds.

Time Period: March 23 - July 2020

Geographic Scope: North Texas area

Focus Areas: Immediate response and long-term relief efforts addressing COVID-19 impact, particularly for:

  • First responders

  • Vulnerable populations (seniors, children, homeless, low-income)
  • Program Details:

  • Rolling basis acceptance with decisions made weekly

  • Single application processed through collaborative funders

  • Each funder allocated separate funds and made individual funding decisions

  • Organizations could receive grants from multiple funders
  • Results:

  • April - mid-July 2020: 30+ participating funders awarded 1,400 grants totaling over $40 million to 630+ area nonprofits
