Overview

Overview

The Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation is the culmination of a lifetime of generosity aligned with our namesake's specific vision to create a foundation to continue to do good work and have meaningful impact in the community Mimi and her husband Cliff called home. Mimi Washington Starrett was a creative, intelligent, and bold woman who was also incredibly generous. It is in her legacy that we are able to provide grants to those in Mimi’s community and beyond, supporting causes near and dear to her heart, as well as those we know Mimi and Cliff would be proud to support.

The Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation’s primary objective is to provide grants to facilitate opportunities for nonprofit organizations to achieve their goals. Mimi and Cliff devoted passion, time and resources to support diverse causes in the greater Morris County community. The Foundation is proud to continue to share their values and vision for generations to come. We are dedicated to learning about the needs within the community so that we may offer partnership and support in the place Mimi and Cliff called home.

Our mission is to provide a range of grants to nonprofit organizations of various sizes that have a meaningful impact on the well-being and economic development of the greater community, including those that address issues surrounding health, addiction, and homelessness; animal welfare; equal education opportunities; access to the arts; and environmental and historical preservation.

We provide single-year or multi-year funding as a way to best support mission-driven efforts and sustainability of the organization. To provide sufficient consideration to the growing number of applicants, the areas of interest we provide for have been categorized into two grant cycles. This allows each organization to apply for a grant annually, as consistent with our previous grant cycle. It also allows for MWSF to dedicate the time required to establish meaningful relationships with applicants, give fair due diligence and consideration to each application, and to continue to offer Beyond Grantmaking opportunities.
