Human, Civil Rights and Social Justice Grant

The Human, Civil Rights and Social Justice Grant, offered by the Maine Education Association, provides up to $1,000 to support local associations in fostering leadership in human, civil rights, and social justice. This initiative aims to empower educators and students, ensuring equity and enhancing educational opportunities. Eligible activities include funding for speakers, materials, and equipment, all aligned with MEA's goals to improve public education in Maine.

The Maine Education Association is a diverse group of professional educators, standing together to ensure that our voices, values, and priorities are heard and respected and that every Maine student has the opportunity for an outstanding education. MEA advocates for better pay, benefits, and working conditions for members. And MEA works to ensure equity, prevent discrimination and prejudice, and advance great public schools for all educators and students across the state.
MEA offers awards and grants to members to both honor and support colleagues and your work.
The Human, Civil Rights and Social Justice Grant awards up to $1,000 in grants to local associations (determined by the number of grant applications awarded). The grants are designed to help local association members provide human, civil rights and social justice leadership in their schools and communities.
Grant money may be used for speakers, materials, space rental, or equipment. It may not be used to pay association members for their work nor for routine association business. Activities funded must be aligned with MEA policy and at least one of the following association goals:
enhance the quality of education in public schools equalize educational opportunities for students in public education support Human, Civil Rights and Social Justice development of members/students encourage participation in local association activities enhance, broaden, or improve HCR issues in public schools
