The GATE Foundation The GATE Foundation, GATE's philanthropic arm, supports efforts and services that nurture and protect the well-being of family and community. Whether giving time to address needs and opportunities that support this mission or providing financial support, The GATE Foundation and GATE employees are active participants in the community. Mission The mission of The GATE Foundation is to support the efforts and services that nurture and protect the well being of family and community. We designate the majority of our philanthropic dollars to addressing needs and opportunities that support this mission. Guidelines The GATE Foundation will give consideration to requests that best reflect the organizational characteristics and focus areas that are consistent with the mission of The GATE Foundation as detailed below. Organizational Characteristics The organization should: Have programs that assist in the nurturing and/or protection of individuals, families and communities; Foster collaborative efforts that leverage the community investments made by The GATE Foundation; or Provide services to individuals, families or communities in which we conduct business. Focus Areas Creates affordable housing for low-to-moderate income families; Provides shelter for those in crisis; Provides youth activity programs to reduce crime in communities (excludes athletic associations); Offers food, nourishment & clothing to those in need; Protects our communities; Provides assisted or independent living for the disabled or elderly; andEnsures access to quality health care/health education programs.Eligibility

To be eligible for grant funding, organizations must: Be recognized as exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; Have broad community support and address specific community needs; Demonstrate fiscal and administrative stability; and Be in existence for at least three (3) years.Ineligibility
The GATE Foundation will not ordinarily make contributions to support certain types of requests. These include, but are not limited to, the following:Organizations that deny service to a potential client or beneficiary on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or disability status; Individuals; Programs of national scope that do not specifically benefit local communities supported by The GATE Foundation; International organizations; Travel or conferences for employees of non-profit organizations; Political action committees, political causes, or candidates; Books, research papers or articles in professional journals; Fraternal and alumni organizations; Religious-based organizations;Private foundations; General operating expenses for organizations that already receive substantial support through United Way or other programs in which The GATE Foundation participates; Sponsorships, events, or projects for which GATE Petroleum Company and its affiliates or its employees receive tangible benefits or privileges;Individual pre-college schools – private, parochial, charter or home schools. However, The GATE Foundation indirectly supports schools through donations to early literacy programs that strive to improve the future success rate of students; Individual schools in public school systems.However, The GATE Foundation indirectly supports schools through volunteerism as well as donations to early literacy programs that strive to improve the future success rate of students; Post-high school education assistance for individuals; and Athletic teams (all age groups and all sports).Focus Areas & Funding Uses
