Plantation Community Foundation Grants

Geographic Scope: South Sarasota County (from Osprey south to the Sarasota/Charlotte County line; from the Gulf of Mexico east to the general area of Interstate 75)

    • Eligibility Requirements

    • Organization Type: 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations only
    • Non-discrimination Policy: Must have non-discriminatory policy regarding race, religion, and national origin, stated in promotional literature
    • Religious Organizations: If founded and run by religious denominations, must seek and be available to clients of all beliefs; significant number of clients must be from different religious denominations with proof provided
    • Financial Requirements: Must submit financial statements with CPA certificate or review letter; if year-end is June 30 or prior, in-house draft Balance Sheet and P&L Statement up to October 31 of current year required
    • IRS Documentation: Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) exemption is mandatory
    • Local Presence: Must have significant presence in South Sarasota County
    • Prior Award Accountability: Organizations awarded grants in previous year must show proof with receipts of fund expenditure, received by December 31 of previous year

      What the Foundation Does NOT Fund

    • Administrative expenses
    • General operating expenses
    • Organizations with large Unrestricted Funds
    • Heavily funded organizations with large budgets where the grant would have little/no impact
    • Poorly run agencies showing little chance of improvement
    • Tangible items or operating expenses not directly related to client services

      Selection Process

    • Grants issued on selective basis
    • Each qualified applicant will be visited by a Grant Review Committee member
    • Applicants may present additional information during site visit
    • Award notifications in March; awards presented at April Grants Award Luncheon

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Deadline: December 15th (annual)

    Submission Requirements:
    1. Format: Two hard copies required (physical submission only)
    2. Delivery Method: Mailed or hand delivered only
    3. Electronic Submissions: NOT ACCEPTED

    Required Documents:

  • Completed application form

  • Supporting information as outlined on application form

  • Financial statements with CPA certificate or review letter

  • If year-end June 30 or prior: in-house draft Balance Sheet and P&L Statement up to October 31 of current year

  • Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) exemption letter

  • Proof of non-discriminatory policy in promotional literature

  • For religious organizations: proof that significant number of clients are from different religious denominations

  • For prior year grant recipients: receipts or confirmation letter of fund expenditure (must be received by December 31 of previous year)
  • Application Steps:
    1. Download application form (available in Microsoft Word or PDF format)
    2. Complete application following outline presented on form in sequence
    3. Gather all required supporting documents
    4. Make two complete copies of application and supporting materials
    5. Mail or hand deliver to Grants Review Committee Chairperson at address above
    6. Submit by December 15th deadline
    7. Expect site visit from Grant Review Committee member
    8. Await notification in March
    9. Receive award at April Grants Award Luncheon (if selected)
