_Note: There is no deadline for submitting a LOI. Our foundations board reviews the LOI’s on an ongoing basis, but we ask that you allow 12-16 weeks for a response. The response time can vary depending on the volume of requests, the timing of proposals and our foundations monthly and quarterly review schedules._

The Legacy Foundations

Our foundations support the work of a wide variety of non-profit organizations that serve our communities. The foundations are guided by the values of the Milgard family and represent the passions of the individual board members.

Ruth Foundation

The Ruth Foundation supports organizations primarily in Pierce County, Washington that focus on and provide direct services for animal welfare and marine life preservation. The foundation also supports some pre-selected homelessness initiatives.

Whisper Foundation

The Whisper Foundation supports Pierce County, Washington organizations that work to improve the quality of life and impact a positive change in the under-served community.

* Grant Requirements

* All applicant organizations must qualify as tax-exempt organizations under the Internal Revenue Code. 
* Grants to any one organization will generally not be approved more often than once a year and will not constitute a guarantee of future funding.
* Grant application cover letter must be signed by the Executive Director of the organization.

* Proposals Ineligible for Funding

* Organizations that do not qualify as 501(c)3 tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code
* Annual funds, galas, or other special event fundraising activities
* Sectarian religious activities, political lobbying, or legislative activities
* Organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, political affiliation or religious belief
