Geographic Scope: New York City

Focus Areas:

• After-school programs for children ages 6-14
• Summer programs
• Academic support and enrichment activities
• Creative arts programs (music, photography, drama)

Program Categories:
Funding available for three types of programs:

• Existing After-school Programs (operating 2+ years)
• Pilot Year Programs (first-year programs)
• Startup Programs (in planning stage)

Eligible Applicants: Member churches of the United Methodist City Society

Minimum Requirements for Participation:

• Serves minimum of 10 students
• Operates 5 days per week
• Has minimum of 3 staff/volunteers
• Directors & staff attend UMCS workshops and trainings
• Provides homework assistance and minimum one additional enrichment activity

What UMCS Provides:

• Financial support to churches operating after-school programs
• Training for program staff on: program development, community-based collaboration, evaluation, staff management, proposal writing, board governance
• Funding for specialized staff and projects (certified teachers, creative arts programs)
• Management assistance in board development, staff/volunteer management, shared space, lease agreements
• Quarterly network meetings for program directors to share best practices

Program Outcomes: Children served improve academic performance, learn new skills, gain exposure to creative arts and sciences, enhance self-esteem and confidence, broaden future education and career options

2023 Results:

• 15 churches funded
• $53,600 funding allocated
• 5,000+ children served

How to Apply for Children's Program Funding

1. Contact UMCS to express interest and begin the process
2. Attend initial consultation to discuss program eligibility and requirements
