Carl D. Smallwood Inclusion Scholarship

Geographic Scope: Upper Arlington High School (UAHS), Upper Arlington, OH

Focus Area: Soccer athletes demonstrating leadership, inclusion, and excellence both on and off the field

Eligibility:

  • Graduating senior members of the girls' and boys' varsity soccer teams

  • Students demonstrating leadership, inclusive environment-building, and sportsmanship
  • Award Purpose: Acknowledges and assists talented soccer players to pursue their post-high school dreams on and off the field. Highlights Upper Arlington's academic excellence, friendship, and bonds developed through athletics while investing in future scholar-athletes who will make positive community impact.

    Background: Established in 2023 to honor Carl D. Smallwood, UAHS '74, former varsity team captain and all-state center midfielder. The scholarship was created by Smallwood's teammates from classes 1973-1977 and continues to receive contributions from friends, family, and the community.

    Selection Process: A committee comprising UAHS soccer alumni, coaches, and school representatives oversees the selection process.
