Service-Learning Initiatives Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Upper Arlington Middle Schools (Jones and Hastings), Upper Arlington, OH

Focus Area: Service-learning projects that integrate community service with academic learning; civic responsibility and community engagement

Eligibility:

  • Middle school service-learning committees

  • Projects that align with district's service-learning mission

  • Initiatives engaging students in meaningful community impact
  • Award Purpose: Supports service-learning initiatives that enrich students' academic experience by integrating classroom learning with community service. Helps develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, civic responsibility, and fosters empathy and social responsibility. Prepares students to become engaged, thoughtful citizens.

    Recent Projects Funded:

  • "Together We Can Make a Difference: Jones & Hastings Year of Service" (2024-2025) - featured Dr. Buddy Berry keynote speaker for all 1,500 middle school students, with grade-level service themes including environmental stewardship (7th grade) and veterans' support/civic responsibility (8th grade)
  • Funding Approach: UA+Ed serves as lead funder and coordinates additional funding from district service-learning budget and school PTOs
