Overview

Hour of Code Initiative Grant

Geographic Scope: Upper Arlington High School and all five elementary schools (Barrington, Greensview, Tremont, Wickliffe, Windermere), Upper Arlington, OH

Focus Area: Computer science and coding education; partnership between high school and elementary students; leadership development

Eligibility:

  • Upper Arlington High School computer science students and Education Pathway participants

  • Elementary school students (K-5th grade)

  • Approximately 3,000 students reached annually
  • Award Purpose: Funds a program where high school students teach coding (unplugged and digital) to elementary students. Fosters development of the Profile of an Engaged Learner among both high school and elementary students.

    Focus Areas:

  • High school students: Collaboration, teamwork, communication, leadership skills, empathy, role modeling

  • Elementary students: Solution-seeking, creativity, resilience, critical thinking

  • Emphasis: Real-world, authentic learning experiences aligned with district mission and values
  • Program Structure: Approximately 4-week intensive program (October-November)
