C&B Better Initiative

Geographic Scope: Dubuque County, Iowa (nonprofits located in and/or serving Dubuque County residents)

Award Amount:

One primary award: $25,000

Two additional awards: up to $15,000 and $10,000

Recurrence: Annual, one-time awards

Purpose: Initiative spearheaded by Cottingham & Butler employees to support community needs aligned with the company's mission and core values. Honors the mantra of "better every day" by partnering with nonprofit initiatives to build better communities.

Selection Process: C&B team members review, vote, and select recipient organizations annually

Eligibility:

Nonprofits located in and/or serving Dubuque County residents only

Priority Focus Areas:

1. Health, Education, and Economic Empowerment
- Access to healthcare, job training, tax filing assistance
- Eliminating barriers and ensuring access to resources (food, technology, shelter, clothing, mentorship, career pathways)

2. Social Awareness and Inclusion
- Building awareness, eliminating stigmas, changing mindsets
- Focus areas: Brain health, racial inequity, diversity, homelessness, addiction

3. Community Development and Relationship Building
- Neighborhood safety and revitalization (low-income improvements, safe spaces, housing, recreation)
- Fostering positive relationships (youth mentorship, athletic programming, tutoring, counseling, therapy)
