Overview

Affinity Giving Grants

Status: Active, annual consolidated grant program

Geographic Scope: Indiana University system (all seven IU campuses)

Background: The Indiana University Foundation established the Affinity Giving department in 2022 to align efforts and increase responsiveness to affinity groups. This program consolidates the grant-making efforts of the Black Philanthropy Circle (BPC), Queer Philanthropy Circle (QPC), and Women's Philanthropy Leadership Council (WPLC).

Mission: Ensure that diversity in philanthropy continues to be a key focus at Indiana University while providing greater coordination and increased impact across affinity-based giving communities.

Eligible Applicants: All Indiana University community members, including students, faculty, and staff with a vision and capacity to manage grant money

Affinity Groups Included:

  • Black Philanthropy Circle (BPC)

  • Queer Philanthropy Circle (QPC)

  • Women's Philanthropy Leadership Council (WPLC)
  • Funding Focus Areas (all affinity groups combined):

  • Improving health care experiences for all patients

  • Strengthening the future of education

  • Advancing transformative research and creativity

  • Supporting diversity and multicultural initiatives

  • Improving public health

  • Creating service-learning experiences for students

  • Supporting leadership initiatives

  • Promoting STEM disciplines

  • Educational and cultural enrichment
  • Award Range: $4,000 - $50,000

  • 2023 grant cycle: $456,000+ awarded to 31 projects across 7 IU campuses (June 7, 2023)

  • 2024 grant cycle: Application window opened November 18, 2023; deadline February 1, 2024
