Mission & Focus Areas
The foundation's mission is to improve the human condition through promoting life-long educational opportunities, research advances, and a spectrum of cultural programming.
The foundation currently concentrates its grantmaking in two primary program areas:
Youth Development – The foundation supports enrichment programs for older Baltimore City youth, with particular focus on middle and high school years. Priority is given to out-of-school-time programs that are trauma-informed, offer holistic approaches, and integrate wrap-around services. Programs must demonstrate strong outcomes including high school graduation rates, attendance, and certification attainment. Emphasis is placed on training in career-related "hard skills" or teaching life skills through athletics and the arts.
Environmental Stewardship – A developing focus area, the foundation seeks to support small-scale environmental efforts through hands-on activities and community engagement. Guidelines for this program area are still under development.
Historically, the foundation has also supported programs in Adult Self-Sufficiency (adult literacy, job training, parenting skills, and domestic violence elimination), Arts and Culture (with emphasis on local outreach to underserved youth and audience diversification), and Health (promoting quality treatment and supportive care at selected health institutions serving the Baltimore community).
