Who is included

A funder is in the files when its latest filings show grantmaking that is substantial, current and to organizations. All of these must hold:

  • at least 10 itemized grants, totalling at least $50,000, in its latest grant year;
  • a return for a fiscal year ending in 2024 or later that itemizes at least one grant;
  • grants that go mainly to organizations rather than to individuals, and not a final return;
  • a U.S. state or territory on the return.

That is the same rule that decides which funder profiles we ask search engines to index, so every row links to a full public profile. Grantable tracks many more grantmakers than this; smaller and older filers are left out because a single year of a few grants says little. How each figure is computed is on the methodology page.

Covered: names, EINs, locations, filing years, grant totals and counts, assets, payout ratios and grantee-history figures that Grantable derives from public IRS filings, plus these files and the tables and charts in our reports. Not covered: the AI-written summaries on funder profiles, news items, logos, and text quoted from funders' own websites. The underlying IRS filings are public records.

Updates and corrections

The IRS releases e-filed returns in batches through the year. We load each batch, then refresh these files after it lands, usually monthly. Each snapshot is dated, so a citation points at a fixed version; this one was taken on October 4, 2026.

Found a figure that does not match a filing? Email hello@grantable.co with the funder's name and EIN and we will check it against the return.

For what the data shows in aggregate, read the State of Foundation Giving 2026, or browse the funder directory.
