Grant-Making Priorities

Current priorities focus on:

  • Water Quality: Improvement of local rivers and protection of water quality throughout Virginia, with focus on tangible improvements, pollution reduction and prevention, agricultural stewardship, local and regional stormwater infrastructure, and healthy watersheds

  • Chesapeake Bay Restoration: Implementation of Virginia's Watershed Implementation Plan to meet TMDL interim and final goals; improved fisheries management and recreational access

  • Land Conservation and Use: Strategies, policies and projects focused on conserving large landscapes, restoring and protecting riparian buffers and headwater streams, establishing conservation practices on easement-protected land, and establishing local land trusts. Nexus with water quality protection is important. Does NOT fund land purchases.

  • Environmental Education and Public Awareness: Outcomes-based proposals incorporating best practices, student learning, teacher/principal training, regional standards and Next Generation Science Standards; experiential learning opportunities; public awareness projects tying environmental stewardship to jobs; innovative collaborative and creative approaches

  • Climate Adaptation and Emerging Issues: Climate adaptation for coastal communities, water supply planning and implementation, invasive species mitigation

    • VEE has strict policy on receipt of complete proposals by deadline

    1. Complete the Virginia Program Application Form (recently updated)
    2. Submit as Word document electronically

    4. Deadline: Must be received by 5 p.m. (ET) on deadline date
    5. Signature: Must be signed by applicant's chief executive officer or board chair
