Overview

VGAP (Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program)

Type: State-funded grant

Geographic Scope: Virginia residents only

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students

  • Virginia residents

  • Graduated from a Virginia high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA, OR

  • Earned diploma via accredited Home School program with SAT Composite score of at least 980 OR ACT Composite score of at least 19

  • Completed FAFSA and demonstrate continued financial need

  • Enrolled in program leading to a degree

  • Maintain Virginia domiciliary residency

  • Maintain minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA

  • Maintain full-time status (at least 12 hours each semester)

  • Maintain continuous enrollment (not counting summer sessions)

  • Advance class levels upon completion of each full year of award (first-year students must earn 30 credits by second year to remain eligible)
  • Award Amount: Ranges from $500 up to tuition, fees and books

    How to Access: Submit final high school transcript to Financial Aid office, complete FAFSA

    Application Process

    1. Verify eligibility (Virginia high school graduate with 2.5+ GPA or home school graduate with required SAT/ACT scores)
    2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
    3. Submit copy of final high school transcript to Financial Aid office
    4. Financial Aid office will determine eligibility
    5. If eligible, notification will be provided in Student Center

    Ongoing Requirements:

  • Demonstrate continued financial need

  • Maintain enrollment in degree program

  • Maintain Virginia residency

  • Maintain 2.0+ cumulative GPA

  • Enroll full-time (at least 12 credit hours each semester)

  • Maintain continuous enrollment (excluding summer)

  • Advance class levels each year (30 credits completed per year for first-year students)
  • Required Materials:

  • Completed FAFSA

  • Copy of final high school transcript

  • If home school: proof of accreditation and SAT/ACT scores
