United Way Miami Funding - Education

There is much research that demonstrates the severe risks linked to juvenile arrests that include cognitive deficits, living in poverty, being a runaway, and/or unstable housing. Providing treatment, prevention, and intervention service options has the ability to reduce overall juvenile delinquency, strengthen familial dynamics, improve their academic outcomes, and improve the lives of troubled youth. The United Way Miami is pleased to announce an opportunity for funding to support (a) programs working with youth that are involved in the juvenile justice system and/or related juvenile diversion programs. Programs are to focus on the improvement of the youth’s behavior that correlates with the improvement of their academic and behavioral outcomes.

Eligibility

* Program Requirements:
* Be a 501(c)(3) organization
* Serving school aged youth, which includes elementary, middle, and high school ages
* Serve youth that are involved in the juvenile justice system and/or juvenile diversion programs
* Programs that strive for youth improvement in social and life skills
* Will give top interest to programs that partner with schools that are in high need, if so, please define what the need is and how the program collaborates with the school(s) to address that need
* This funding should be supplemental and be used to enhance an already existing program.
* Be able to gather and track outcome and indicator data, some top preferred outcomes being:
* Improved conduct and effort grades
* Improvement in Social Emotional Learning skills via social competence, persistence, selfcontrol, reading engagement, schools' engagement, and family engagement
* Increased knowledge of effective decision-making skills (e.g. conflict resolution, impulse and emotional control, problem solving, decreased at-risk behavior, etc.)
* Increased ability to make effective decisions (e.g. conflict resolution, impulse and emotional control, problem solving, decreased at-risk behavior, etc.)
* Decrease chronic absenteeism through improved school attendance

Ineligibility

* No dollars will be given to develop a new program.
