Overview

TMRF Environmental Award

Award Amount: Up to $100,000, paid out at $25,000 per year for four years

Geographic Scope:

  • Students residing in Truckee, unincorporated Placer County around Truckee, and/or North Lake Tahoe (California side only)

  • OR students attending a high school within the TTUSD boundary
  • Eligible Schools:

  • Truckee High

  • North Tahoe High

  • Forest Charter High

  • Sierra Continuation High School

  • Cold Stream Alternative

  • Sugar Bowl Academy

  • Tahoe Expedition Academy

  • Both public and private high schools within TTUSD boundary
  • Eligibility Criteria:

  • Graduating high school seniors

  • Must enroll in higher education in Fall 2025 (or applicable award year)

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5

  • Must attend a 2-year or 4-year institution or pursue a vocational certificate

  • Must be a resident of eligible area or attend school within TTUSD boundary
  • Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or clear vision around ability to significantly improve climate and/or the human condition (primary focus)

  • Academic achievement (minimum GPA 3.5)

  • Extra-curricular activities, environmental interests, and volunteer efforts

  • Financial need and vocational interest considered, but award may be based on merit as well

  • Individual interview performance (required for finalists)
  • Award Distribution:
    If winner unable to accept full award amount, remaining funds allocated to runners-up. Payment can be made directly to recipient or school, whichever family prefers or school requires. Proof of enrollment required annually.

    Application Process

    Application Platform: Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) consolidated application process

    How to Apply:
    1. Access the TTCF scholarship application portal (CLICK HERE per website)
    2. IMPORTANT: Student MUST check "climate change" and/or "the human condition" to see the TMRF award
    3. Complete the online application
    4. Submit by spring deadline

    Timeline:

  • Applications due annually in the spring (mid-January through April)

  • Finalists selected by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Individual interviews required for finalists

  • Awards announced in spring

  • Funding distributed after proof of enrollment submitted
  • Selection Process:

  • Initial review by Scholarship Committee

  • Selected finalists invited to individual interviews

  • Committee makes final selections based on criteria
  • Required Documentation:

  • Proof of high school enrollment and graduation

  • Proof of enrollment in 2- or 4-year institution or vocational program for Fall 2025

  • Academic records (GPA verification)
