Overview

TMRF Environmental Award

Overview: TMRF is committed to supporting the scholastic achievements of graduating high school seniors from schools within the TTUSD boundary.

Award Amount: Up to $100,000 paid out at $25,000 per year for four years (2025 award cycle)

Geographic Scope:

  • Must be resident of Truckee, unincorporated Placer County around Truckee and/or North Lake Tahoe (California side only)

  • OR attend high school within TTUSD boundary

  • Eligible schools: Truckee High, North Tahoe High, Forest Charter High, Sierra Continuation High School, Cold Stream Alternative, Sugar Bowl Academy, Tahoe Expedition Academy
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • High school graduates (public and private schools)

  • Must have minimum 3.5 GPA

  • Must be enrolling in higher education in Fall 2025 (2- or 4-year institution or vocational certificate program)
  • Award Criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or clear vision around combatting climate change and/or improving conditions for humanity

  • Academic achievement (minimum 3.5 GPA)

  • Financial need and vocational interest (may be awarded based on merit and/or financial need)

  • Extra-curricular activities, environmental interests, and volunteer efforts

  • Individual interview required for finalists
  • Timeline:

  • Applications due annually in spring

  • Finalists selected by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Finalists interviewed individually

  • Award winner selected based on criteria
  • Note: If winner unable to accept full award, remaining funds may be allocated to runners-up.

    Application Process

    How to Apply:
    1. Complete application through Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) consolidated application process
    2. Students complete one common online application for community scholarships
    3. Submit application during spring deadline period

    Application Portal: CLICK HERE (applicants must check "climate change" and/or "human condition" to see TMRF award)

    Selection Process:
    1. Initial review by Scholarship Committee of all completed applications
    2. Committee may invite select group of finalists to interview
    3. Finalists participate in speed-dating style interviews (5 minutes with each committee member)
    4. Committee makes final selections and assigns awards

    Timeline:

  • Applications due annually in spring (mid-January through April)

  • Finalists selected by TMRF Scholarship Committee

  • Individual finalist interviews conducted

  • Award winner announced
  • Required Documentation (upon acceptance):

  • Proof of enrollment (required annually)
  • Payment:

  • Paid directly to recipient or school per family preference or school requirement
