Launched in 2012 to advance the goal of inspiring and supporting tzedakah, justice and righteousness throughout the world. The grant program helps vulnerable populations through a variety of programs focused on economic development and social empowerment, with particular focus on overlooked and marginalized demographics.Funding Amount

Priority Focus Areas (2023/2024 Grant Cycle)
Projects providing basic necessities for a decent life:- Show clear promise to respond to unmet needs of those who are poor and/or marginalized
- Promote self-help and empowerment within communities
- Are grassroots organizations that utilize local community resources
- Have operating budgets under $750,000 (preference given to smaller budgets)
- Propose projects that would otherwise not be possible without JHH assistance
- Create partnerships with other organizations and local populations
- Show respect for the opinions and ideas of others
- Are non-profit organizations or individuals
Eligibility Criteria
JHH will consider making grants to individuals or organizations that:- Capital projects, building campaigns, or political campaigns
- Scholarships or fellowships
- Programs administered by for-profit entities
- Micro-loan programs
- Overhead or administrative salaries and expenses
- Conference fees, expenses, or travel
- Grants cannot subsidize administrative salaries (100% must be used for intended program)

Recurrence: Annual Renewal: Grant recipients may reapply to have grants renewed. Organizations can apply for additional grants for new projects.- Address intractable problems and overlooked or ignored populations
- Use creativity and personal commitment to find solutions
- Continue to persevere in helping people in need
- Create partnerships to enlarge the circle of involvement and inclusiveness
- Work with grassroots approaches utilizing local resources
- Focus on safety and health of community members

Application Process
Two-Step Application Process:
#### Step One: Initial Inquiry Form
Deadline: September 13 (annually)
#### Step Two: Full Application (Invitation Only)
Timeline: Selected organizations notified by November 7
Submission Deadline: December 5
Letter of Application (LOA) Requirements:
- Needs to be met
- Objective of the program/project
- Proposed methodology
- Expected impact (number of people impacted/areas to be served)
- Whether the proposed project would duplicate existing services; if so, how it would improve upon them
- Full name and contact information of sponsoring organization and/or individual responsible
- Mission of the project/program
- Method for measuring success
- Target constituency
- Specific objective of the program/project
- Complete operating budget for the project and sponsoring organization
- Details of how beneficiaries are/would become directly involved in orchestration of the project
Required Attachments to LOA:
1. Proposed operating budget for the project/program, including:
- Amount of funding requested from JHH
- Amount of funding expected from other sources
2. Organization's general operating budget (if applicable)
3. IRS determination letter of not-for-profit status (or non-US equivalent)
Partnership Encouragement:
Applicants are encouraged to consider partnering with other local groups and to include partnership information when applicable.
#### Step Three: Interview & Site Visits
Timeline: January 9 - March 14
#### Step Four: Grant Decision
Timeline: May 1
- Due to large number of proposals, notifications may only be sent to semi-finalists
- Grant Making Committee reviews all full applications
- Finalists selected for interview stage
