The Harry Tennison Scholarship Fund

Funder: Sportsmen's Club of Fort Worth (TX, US)

Purpose:
Provide financial assistance to current college students and graduating high school seniors pursuing studies in outdoor and/or wildlife management, conservation, research, and education.

Geographic Scope:

  • Residency Required: North Texas region

  • School Location: Any post-secondary college, university, or other institution in the United States
  • Eligibility:

  • Current college students OR graduating secondary school seniors

  • Reside in North Texas region

  • Attend or plan to attend a post-secondary institution in the U.S.

  • Emphasis of studies must include: outdoor and/or wildlife management, conservation, research, and/or education

  • Must maintain good academic standing to continue receiving award

  • No restrictions based on: age, sex, race, creed, national origin, or religion
  • Award Details:

  • Amount: Targeted between $5,000 - $8,000

  • Timing: Awards targeted for May or June prior to beginning of school year

  • Funding Access: Recipients must access awarded funds within six months of award notification

  • Academic Requirement: Recipient must remain in good academic standing and continue enrolled in course of study, or award terminates

  • Verification: Recipient must provide transcript confirming good academic standing
  • Selection Criteria:
    Scholarship Committee considers:

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Leadership potential

  • Initiative

  • Strong educational goals

  • Contributions to community

  • Participation in extra-curricular activities

  • Recommendations from teachers, administrators, and/or guidance counselors

    - One letter from a faculty member or academic advisor (REQUIRED)

    - Maximum file size: 3 MB

    4. Scholastic Achievements
    - List all honors and awards (name, year achieved, nature of award)
    - Add/Remove capability for multiple entries

    5. Organizations and Activities
    - High school and college organizations/sports participation
    - Years attended and leadership roles
    - Civic (non-school) organizations and honors
    - Years attended and leadership roles

    6. Financial Information
    - Name of institution where scholarship will be used
    - Institution address (street, city, state, ZIP, country)
    - Estimated tuition
    - Estimated books
    - Estimated room and board
    - Total cost calculation
    - Financial aid application status (Yes/No)
    - If yes to financial aid: provide details

    7. Essay Requirement
    - Written response (required): "Please explain in your own words why you believe you should be awarded a scholarship from the Sportsmen's Club"
    - Discussion must include current career goals

    8. Dependency and Income Information
    - Marital status: Single or Married
    - Dependency status: Independent or Dependent on Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
    - Primary income provider (Father, Mother, Legal Guardian, Self, Spouse)
    - Income provider name and address
    - Income provider employer
