Overview

The Affordability Scholarship

Overview: A special limited-time program that provides free tuition credits to support students who were enrolled in credit courses at ACC during spring 2024 semester. No application required—eligible students are automatically awarded.

Geographic Scope: Austin, Texas (Austin Community College District)

Award Details:

  • Covers tuition for up to 15 credit hours

  • Tuition cost per credit hour: $67 (resident)

  • Included fees: $15 general fee, $2 success fee, $1 sustainability fee

  • Total per credit hour: $85 (standard ACC rate)

  • Program duration: Two-year pilot, ending Summer 2026

  • Timeline to use credits: Up to three consecutive semesters from eligibility date
  • Focus Areas: Support for students pursuing their first associate degree at ACC

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Enrollment cohort: Must have been enrolled in a credit course at ACC in Spring 2024

  • Credit hours: Must earn 45 or more credit hours toward an associate degree at ACC

  • Degree status: Must be declared in an associate degree program (not certificate-only)

  • First degree: Working toward first ACC associate degree

  • No other waivers: Not enrolled in another tuition waiver program

  • Residency: In-district/resident students only
  • Who Does NOT Qualify:

  • Students not enrolled at ACC in Spring 2024

  • Out-of-state (non-resident) or international students

  • Students already in another tuition waiver program

  • Students pursuing certificate-only programs (may become eligible after becoming degree-declared)

  • Students in ACC bachelor's degree programs
  • What's Covered:

  • Resident tuition ($67/credit hour)

  • General fees ($15)

  • Success fee ($2)

  • Sustainability fee ($1)
  • What's NOT Covered:

  • Out-of-district fees ($201 per credit hour)

  • Non-resident/international student fees

  • Course-specific or program-specific fees

  • Textbooks

  • Any other non-tuition charges

  • Spring/Summer 2024: Can apply Fall 2024–Summer 2025

  • Fall 2024: Can apply Spring 2025–Fall 2025

  • Summer 2025: Can apply Fall 2025–Summer 2026

  • Fall 2025: Can apply Spring 2026–Summer 2026

    Eligibility Verification Steps

    1. Check your eligibility status - Log in to Student Planning in Self-Service at ACC
    - Run degree audit
    - Review credits toward your degree program
    - Monitor progress toward 45 credit hour requirement

    2. Automatic identification - The college automatically identifies eligible students
    - Your student ID will be tagged as eligible in the system
    - No forms or documents to submit

    Using Your Tuition Credits

    Step 1: Earn 45+ credit hours

  • Complete 45 or more credit hours toward your first associate degree at ACC

  • System will automatically identify you as eligible
  • Step 2: Plan your registration

  • Meet with your ACC advisor

  • Map out your next courses

  • Plan how to use your tuition credits most effectively

  • Verify timeline for when you can apply credits
  • Step 3: Register for classes

  • Use the same standard registration process

  • Your tuition benefit will automatically be reflected in your bill

  • You will still see charges for non-covered fees (out-of-district fees, textbook costs, course-specific fees)
  • Monitoring Your Account

    1. Log into Self-Service - Access Student Planning
    2. Check Financial Information - Select "Financial Information » Pay for Classes"
    3. Review your bill - See:
    - Tuition credits applied (automatically, no action needed)
    - Any remaining charges (out-of-district fees, textbooks, course fees)
    4. Pay remaining balance - Due before payment deadline

    Important Notes

    • Tuition credits are applied automatically to eligible courses—no additional steps required
    • You remain responsible for all non-tuition charges
    • You have up to three consecutive semesters to apply your credits (or until Summer 2026, whichever comes first)
    • Program ends Summer 2026—use your credits by then
