Established by 1949 Temple High School graduate Boyd Taylor, this grant recognizes the profound impact of liberal arts teachers. Mr. Taylor, now an author of five novels and numerous short stories, created this grant to counter the emphasis on STEM in high schools and support teachers who inspire critical thinking and creativity in the liberal arts.

  • Background

    Boyd Taylor attended Temple College and the University of Texas, earning a B.A. with Honors and an LL.B. He was influenced by liberal arts teachers Olivia Jones (Latin and History) and Mary Elizabeth Holden (English) during his high school years. At the university level, he served as editor of Temple College newspaper, member of state championship debate team, and was on the Editorial Board of the Texas Law Review at UT Law School. He received the Wright Morrow Scholarship and is a Keaton Fellow.
