Sturgeon River Pottery Fund for Education in the Visual Arts

Overview: Established in 1999 by local residents Steve and Karen Andrews in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary. Named after Sturgeon River Pottery, a pottery studio and art shop on Charlevoix Avenue in Petoskey founded by Steve and Karen. The fund celebrates their love for visual arts and for the community that supported their business. Nearly $27,000 has been awarded to area schools to support creative expression among youth.

Geographic Scope:

  • Emmet County, MI schools

  • Wolverine, MI schools
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • K-12 art teachers based at Emmet County or Wolverine schools
  • Funding Focus:

  • Purchase of visual art supplies for K-12 art classrooms

  • Visual art projects including: ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, crafts, photography, or animation
  • Funding Requirements:

  • Grant requests must be $250.00 or less

  • Art supplies must be used with students in grades K-12 in the current school year

  • Must pertain to visual art projects

  • Submit request in advance of the project

  • Community Foundation does not reimburse supply costs for art projects that already occurred

  • This fund is not intended to support preschool art supplies
