Overview

Environmental Education Fund

Overview: Established in 2009 by a generous donor to connect local youth to the ecology that surrounds them. Since 2009, the fund has helped nearly 5,000 Emmet County children and teens learn from nature.

Geographic Scope: Emmet County, MI; K-12 students

Eligible Applicants:

  • Emmet County schools

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofits that provide K-12 environmental education in Emmet County
  • Funding Focus - Current Priorities:

  • Field trip transportation to local nature preserves, birding trails, state parks, fishing ponds, family farms and other outdoor environments that complement classroom learning

  • Equipment (orienteering devices, art supplies, binoculars, waders, etc.) that enhances student learning and deeper observation of ecology

  • Specialized training for local educators and nonprofit staff on how to facilitate environmental education for area students
  • What is NOT Funded:

  • Outdoor recreation or athletics (such as skiing trips or sailing lessons)
  • Funding Requirements:

  • Requests must be $500.00 or less

  • Proposed activities must occur during the current K-12 school year

  • Must emphasize nature-based learning

  • Submit request in advance of proposed activity

  • Community Foundation does not reimburse activities that have already occurred
  • Grant Timeline: If approved, grant check will be mailed within three weeks. School applicants: grant checks will be mailed to superintendent.

    2. When prompted, enter Access Code: TRAN01
    3. Submit application during the school year
    4. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis during the school year

  • Community Foundation does not reimburse activities that have already occurred

  • Grant checks will be mailed to superintendent for school applicants
