School Connections: Field Trip Scholarships

Overview: A limited number of field trip scholarships are available to classrooms serving high populations of children receiving free or reduced lunches.

Status: Applications are OPEN for the 2025-26 school year

Geographic Scope: Illinois (Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago)

Focus Areas:

  • Field trip experiences for Pre-K to 2nd-grade classrooms

  • In-school Museum experiences
  • Eligibility:

  • Pre-K to 2nd-grade classrooms only

  • Must serve 50% or more students receiving free or reduced lunch

  • Minimum eligibility: 50-75% or more than 75% of students on free/reduced lunch
  • Priority: First-time applicants or classrooms that have not visited the Museum in at least one year receive priority consideration

    What's Included:

  • Self-guided field trip OR in-school Museum experience

  • Does NOT include transportation for self-guided trips

  • Private rooms available for lunches brought by school (must book in advance)
  • Application Notes:

  • If multiple classrooms apply, submit separate application for each classroom (1 application = 1 classroom)

  • Applicants not receiving initial award will be placed on waitlist

    Application Process

    Required Steps:
    1. Complete the Field Trip Scholarship application form
    2. Provide school contact information
    3. Provide applicant/teacher contact information
    4. Submit classroom information
    5. Upload required documentation
    6. Describe how students will benefit
    7. Indicate any accommodations needed
    8. Specify how you heard about the opportunity

    Required Materials:

  • Official school document on school district letterhead confirming the percentage of children on free or reduced lunch (500k file upload size limit maximum)

  • School name and address

  • School phone number

  • School fax number

  • Grade level of classroom (Pre-K through 2nd grade only)

  • Number of students in classroom

  • Percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch (must be 50-75% or more than 75%)
  • Required Information:

  • Applicant name and email

  • Teacher name (if applicant is not the teacher) and email

  • Principal name

  • Best method and time to contact you

  • Selected experience type (self-guided field trip or in-school Museum experience)

  • Written explanation of how students will benefit from a Kohl Children's Museum experience

  • Any necessary accommodations for staff or students

  • Any entry requirements to school/center from Museum staff
  • Notification: Notifications of acceptance will be sent once application review process is complete
