Overview: Recognizes an outstanding student nurse who exemplifies compassion, exceptional promise in clinical expertise, and academic achievement—the underpinnings of nursing excellence.

Geographic Scope: Illinois

Eligibility:

  • Must be: Pre-licensure student nurse

  • Must be: Studying in Illinois

  • Should demonstrate: Outstanding achievement, exceptional academic or clinical ability, or exemplary compassion and caring toward clients and peers during years of study

  • Simulation and clinical learning

    • Award Status: Inaugural award presented in 2020; ongoing annual award

    Example: 2020 winner Rory Nicholson, Master's Entry to Nursing Practice student, recognized for exceptional academic and clinical excellence, leadership in graduate assistant support systems, and unanimous award of DePaul University School of Nursing's Fatima Patel Clinical Excellence Award

    Nomination Process:

  • Nominees are submitted by faculty, educators, or clinical preceptors

  • Nomination statement must provide evidence of nominee's qualifications

  • Must demonstrate exceptional academic or clinical ability

    • Required Documentation in Nomination:

  • Evidence of academic excellence and performance

  • Examples of exceptional clinical ability and promise

  • Demonstrations of compassion and caring toward clients and peers

  • Examples of professional leadership and initiative

  • Peer evaluation and collaboration examples

  • Clinical and academic awards or recognitions

  • Examples of contributions to nursing education or program improvement

  • Personal statements from faculty or clinical mentors
