Overview

Sí Se Puede César E. Chávez Scholarship

Overview: This scholarship was established in 2012 to honor the life and legacy of César Estrada Chávez. The purpose is to provide financial assistance to students who, like Chávez, have a commitment to civic engagement and show promise for engaging the principles of equity and social justice during their time at Davenport.

Geographic Scope: Davenport University (Michigan-based)

Focus Areas:

  • Civic engagement

  • Equity and social justice

  • Community service and activities in support of diversity and inclusion

  • Special consideration for students from migrant, farmworker, or undocumented families
  • Scholarship Benefits:

  • Helps pay for tuition and routine fees after other government grants and scholarships are applied to recipients' Davenport student accounts

  • Renewable for up to 4 years or bachelor's degree (whichever is shorter)
  • Obligations:

  • Recipients are requested to attend the annual Hispanic Excellence Scholarship & Community Awards Gala, held in October
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • A new high school graduate

  • Accepted to Davenport with a minimum 2.00 GPA

  • Must maintain Standards of Academic Progress

  • High school grade transcript required showing at least six semesters with cumulative GPA

  • Students from migrant, farmworker, or undocumented families are encouraged to apply

  • Students involved in community service and/or activities in support of diversity and inclusion are encouraged to apply
  • Application Status: Currently closed (deadline passed as of extraction date 2026-04-03)

    1. Eligibility check:
    - Confirm you are a new high school graduate
    - Confirm acceptance to Davenport with minimum 2.00 GPA
    - Confirm you have your Student ID number (if not known, complete admissions process or contact admissions)

    2. Required documentation:
    - High school grade transcript showing at least six semesters with cumulative GPA
    - Documentation of community service and/or diversity/inclusion activities (if applicable)
    - Documentation of migrant, farmworker, or undocumented family background (if applicable)
