Future Urban STEM Educator Scholarship

An NSF Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Grant opportunity offered through Davenport University's College of Urban Education. This scholarship enables students to complete their junior and senior years tuition-free if they commit to becoming STEM educators in high-need urban school districts.

Geographic Scope: Focus on high-need school districts (Michigan emphasis)

Program Focus:

• Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields
• Biological laboratory sciences and computer sciences
• K-12 STEM education in urban schools
• Addresses Michigan's teacher shortage by equipping students to be highly effective STEM educators

Scholarship Benefits:

• Full-ride scholarship to complete chosen bachelor's program
• Teaching certificate through Davenport's FUSE Scholar Program
• Specialized training in STEM education teaching practices for K-12 urban schools
• Stipend support available for STEM professionals completing graduate certificate in urban education

Eligibility Requirements:

• Full-time enrollment required
• Pursuing Bachelor's in Biological Laboratory Science OR Computer Science, OR STEM professional completing graduate certificate in urban education
• Maintain good academic standing: 3.0+ GPA (undergraduates)
• Complete degree program successfully and on time
• Teaching obligation: Serve as teacher in high-need school district for two years for each year of scholarship received
• Selected based on academic performance

Application Checklist:
Complete the application checklist and provide the following:

1. Official transcripts
2. Personal statement/essay - Approximately 750 words detailing:
   • What attracts you to STEM
   • Your interest in the teaching profession
3. Current resume
4. 2 professional letters of recommendation
5. Documentation highlighting:
   • Service-learning experience
   • Work with students
   • Recognitions, honors, and awards

Selection Process:

• Each applicant will interview for the opportunity
• Students selected based on academic performance
