Latinx Youth Conference Scholarship

Award: Four laptops for eighth-grade students

Geographic Scope: West Michigan schools

Eligibility:

  • Enrolled as an eighth-grade student at a West Michigan school

  • Identify as Latinx or Hispanic

  • Submit requested information by deadline
  • Overview: The 2025 Latinx Youth Conference awards four laptops to qualifying eighth-grade students. Students may submit for as many of the four scholarship opportunities as they wish.

    Application Process

    Students may apply for any or all of the four scholarship challenges:

    #### 1. Cultural Narrative Challenge

  • Prompt: Share how understanding and embracing your cultural heritage has influenced who you are and what you believe in. Describe an experience that shaped your values and explain how it has impacted your thoughts and actions. Reflect on why your story is unique and powerful.

  • Requirements: Typed essay, no more than 500 words

  • Submission: Download finished essay by 11:59 p.m. on January 10

  • Required Information: First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone Number, School, Document upload
  • #### 2. Letter to Your Future Self Challenge

  • Prompt: Write a letter to your future self, reflecting on the person you are today, your dreams and aspirations, and the lessons you've learned along the way. Consider what you hope to achieve, the challenges you anticipate, and the values that guide you. Address your future self with words of encouragement and advice, and share your hopes and fears for the journey ahead. Consider what you want to remember about this moment in your life and what you want to remind yourself of in the future.

  • Requirements: Typed list of accomplishments

  • Submission: Download finished list by 11:59 p.m. on January 10

  • Required Information: First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone Number, School, Document upload
  • #### 3. Art and Culture Challenge

  • Prompt: What does Latinx culture mean to you? How has it influenced you in the past and how do you see it playing a role in your future? Is it at the center of your family and friendships, or somewhere out on the perimeter? Showcase your thoughts in a sketch, drawing or painting.

  • Requirements: Sketch, drawing, or painting submitted by scanning the original

  • Submission: Download scanned copy by 11:59 p.m. on January 10

  • Required Information: First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone Number, School, Document upload

  • Note: Winner will be required to provide original art to the Hispanic Center to showcase at the 2025 Latinx Youth Conference
  • #### 4. Reflection on Educational Journey Challenge

  • Prompt: Create a video or essay describing a significant moment in your education that has strongly impacted your journey so far. Talk about how being proud of your culture has helped you in this part of your life. Share how you've overcome any tough problems you've faced along the way. Share how these experiences have inspired you to pursue future success and growth.

  • Requirements: Short video or essay of 500 words or less communicating a clear vision for your academic and personal growth. Must include insightful information on how you demonstrated resilience and perseverance. Convey passion and determination towards achieving your goals and making a positive impact.

  • Submission: Submit pitch or presentation by 11:59 p.m. on January 10

  • Required Information: First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone Number, School, Document upload
