Overview

About the William Cash Grant The William M. Cash Charitable Fund was established by the Portsmouth Rotary Club in 2002 following the largest single charitable donation in the history of our club, left by William M. Cash in 2001 upon his death. Many options were weighed as to how to invest the funds and how the proceeds should be disbursed. Ultimately it was decided that the money would be placed with the NH Charitable Foundation and that proceeds would be used to encourage Portsmouth Rotarians to do hands on projects in the community to benefit local non-profits that were serving the Seacoast. These projects would be “Rotarian driven” and create opportunities for fellowship that would lead to a more vibrant club. In this way, the Cash Charitable Fund differs from outright donations our club makes to non-profits from funds raised through our many fundraisers and other endowment funds. The Committee is charged with publicizing the availability of the fund to the club membership and encouraging worthy partnerships with local non-profits that club members support and are actively engaged with. Grants awarded exceeding $1,500 require follow-up by a member and documentation as to the actual use and/or application of funds.
