Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship Program

Overview: One of the community pillars of the Reno Rodeo Foundation is supporting Northern Nevada high school graduates through educational scholarship. The scholarship program began in 1986 with the award of four students receiving $1,500 each. Today, over one million dollars has been allocated to hundreds of young adults throughout 14 Northern Nevada counties.

Geographic Scope: Northern Nevada high schools in the following 14 counties (excluding Clark County, Esmeralda County, and Lincoln County)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have graduated from a Northern Nevada high school

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA at time of application required

  • Applicants must be documented (undocumented applicants are ineligible)

  • Must maintain 3.0 college GPA or equivalent

  • Must enroll as a full-time student

  • Must declare a major at an accredited Nevada System of Higher Education institution or out-of-state accredited college/university if major not offered in Nevada

  • Must be accepted into a Career College, University, or Vocational School licensed by the State of Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education in good standing with accreditation status as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Out-of-state students: must sign Pledge & Scholarship Acceptance letter agreeing to return to Nevada within 6 months after degree completion and provide 1 year of employment in Nevada
  • Selection Criteria:

  • Financial need

  • Scholastic proficiency

  • Leadership

  • Volunteer service

  • Specialized talents

  • Additional consideration given to applicants participating in Rodeo, FFA, 4H clubs or Grange

  • Additional consideration for applicants who are or have been in foster care in Nevada (excluding Clark, Esmeralda, and Lincoln counties)
  • Ineligibility:

  • Reno Rodeo Association and Reno Rodeo Foundation Officers, Directors, or their immediate family members
  • Award Administration:

  • Award administered by educational institution to fund tuition or other educational-related expenses

  • If recipient cannot maintain 3.0 GPA during any school year, award is forfeited and funds returned to foundation

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Timeline:

  • Application opens: October 26 (8:00 AM)

  • Application deadline: February 8 (5:00 PM)

  • Notifications: on or before April 26
  • Required Documents to Upload:
    1. Northern Nevada High School Transcript (most current, showing minimum 3.0 GPA)
    2. College, University, Career College or Vocational School Transcript showing minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent (if applicable)
    3. Out-of-State Pledge & Scholarship Acceptance Letter (if applicable, must be downloaded and filled out)
    4. Letter(s) of Recommendation (maximum of 3; MUST be signed and MUST be dated within the last 12 months)
    5. Documentation from educational institution listing breakdown of tuition costs and all school-related expenses for applicable school year
    6. Quality Photo of Yourself

    Application Notes:

  • Applications received after posted deadline will be deemed ineligible

  • Incomplete applications will be deemed ineligible

  • Scholarship recipients and award amounts recommended by Scholarship Committee and referred to Board of Trustees for review and final approval at regularly scheduled meeting

  • All applicants will be notified of results

  • Scholarship award recipients invited to attend Reno Rodeo Association May membership luncheon
