Overview
P.E.O. STAR Scholarship
Purpose: Non-renewable scholarship for graduating women in their final year of high school. Must be used in academic year following graduation or will be forfeited.
Award Type: Merit-based scholarship (recognizes academic excellence, leadership, extracurricular activities, community service)
Geographic Scope: United States and Canada
Award Amount: $2,500 (one-time, non-renewable)
Timing: Must be used in academic year following high school graduation
- Recommended by a local chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood
- Citizen or legal permanent resident of United States or Canada
- Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Exhibits excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success
- Plans to attend accredited postsecondary education institution in United States or Canada
- Plans to attend full-time or part-time in fall of academic year following high school graduation
- Nondiscriminatory evaluation regardless of race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability, or P.E.O. connection

- Notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters

Application Process
1. Local Chapter Interview and Recommendation
- Members of local P.E.O. chapter interview student before deciding to recommend her
- Student must be recommended by local chapter
2. Online Application Submission
- After local chapter recommends student, P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant instructions for logging into online account
- Student must submit application no more than 30 days after receiving email
- Timeline: 30 days to complete online portion
3. Required Application Materials
- Information about student and her extracurricular activities
- Information about community service/volunteer activities
- 700-word essay
- Two letters of recommendation
- Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)
4. Award Notification
- Awards announced annually by April 30
- Notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters
