P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

Program Type: Non-renewable merit-based scholarship for graduating high school seniors

Geographic Scope: United States and Canada

Purpose: To recognize and encourage academic excellence, leadership, and achievement by women in their final year of high school. Award must be used in academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.

Eligibility Requirements

• Recommended by a local chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood
• U.S. or Canadian citizen or legal permanent resident
• Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
• Exhibits excellence in:
  • Leadership
  • Academics
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Community service
  • Potential for future success
• Plans to attend accredited postsecondary education institution in U.S. or Canada full-time or part-time in fall of academic year following high school graduation
• Nondiscriminatory evaluation regardless of race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability, or P.E.O. connection

Must be used in academic year following graduation or scholarship will be forfeited.

Application Process

1. Chapter Interview and Recommendation: Members of local P.E.O. chapter interview student before deciding to recommend her
2. Notification: After local chapter recommends student, P.E.O. Executive Office emails applicant instructions for logging into online account
3. Application Submission: Student must submit application no more than 30 days after receiving email instructions
4. Required Materials:
   • Information about the student
   • Extracurricular activities information
   • Community service/volunteer activities description
   • 700-word essay
   • Two letters of recommendation
   • Unofficial high school transcript (through 11th grade/junior year)
5. Award Notification: Awards announced annually by April 30; notification sent to all applicants and recommending chapters
