Our Mission

The Owen County Community Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of Owen County, now and for generations to come.

Background

The work of local nonprofit organizations impacts the quality of life for everyone in Owen County. Recognizing the essential role they play in the economy and health of our community, OCCF is committed to sharing knowledge about the nonprofit sector and strengthening nonprofit organizations through grants and training.

The Owen County Community Foundation administered more than $1.7 million in 2024 in community grants and contracts, primarily through nonprofit organizations. Our core programs and community impact initiatives are designed to strengthen nonprofits and solve community problems while delivering solid results and leveraging relationships.

Funding Categories

The Community Foundation has identified the following areas of emphasis for grantmaking, based on our 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. Areas of focus may change annually, as our community needs shift.

* Education
* Non-Profit Capacity Building
* Youth Philanthropy
* Human Services
* MYPath Trail System
* Attracting and Retaining "Rising Generations" (25 - 40-year-olds)
* May include other areas of emphasis such as quality of place, arts & culture, trails & parks, etc.

Additionally, the Community Foundation will consider requests for initiatives to support community wellness; culture; economic development; transportation; agriculture; natural resources; broadband access; historic & archaeological resources; hazard mitigation; innovation & entrepreneurship; and quality of place.

Rapid Response Grant

The Rapid Response Grants Program is designed to address emergency and time-sensitive needs of nonprofit organizations serving Owen County. These grants align with OCCF’s mission to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Owen County, now and for generations to come.

If your non-profit organization is in need of immediate assistance, please check out our newly available Rapid Response Grant which will issue an amount of up to $1,000. There is no deadline to apply for a Rapid Response Grant.

Use of Funds

Rapid Response Grants provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations facing:

* Emergencies: Unexpected and unplanned events or situations requiring immediate action.
* Time-sensitive opportunities: Short-term initiatives or needs with a limited window for implementation, typically within the next few months.

Eligibility

* Your organization may be eligible to receive a grant up to $1,000 if:
* Your non-profit organization is located in and/or provides services to Owen County
* Your non-profit organization is a qualified charitable organization, designated by the IRS and the organization is good standing in GuideStar.
* Your charitable organization has a sponsoring non-profit
* Who Can Apply
* The Community Foundation invites all charitable organizations including charitable 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, churches, and governmental agencies in or serving Owen County to apply for grants.
* If your organization does not meet these criteria but your project meets the OCCF’s charitable goals, we may be able to partner you with a fiscal sponsor, so please contact our office for assistance.
