Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan was established in 1984 to ensure residents in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties can thrive. Since then, we have grown to be among the top 25 community foundations in the United States. We’ve distributed more than $1.4 billion through more than 85,000 grants to nonprofits in fields as diverse as arts, children and youth, economic stability, health and human services, and the environment. We convene partners to solve regional challenges and serve as a trusted philanthropic advisor for donors who want to do good. Miguel Cabrera Family Scholarship The purpose of the Miguel Cabrera Family Scholarship Fund is to provide educational scholarships that benefit students graduating from high schools in Michigan, with a preference for students from Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties, or Florida, with a preference for students from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Initially, the Fund will award $1,000 to one student from Michigan and $1,000 to one student from Florida. Scholarship awards will be renewable awards for each year of attendance, up to four years. If a suitable candidate from Florida is not identified, then a second student from Michigan may be awarded the scholarship.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be a Michigan high school graduate with a preference for students from Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair counties, or Florida high school graduate, with a preference for students from Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.Eligible candidates will be in good academic standing (grade point average of 2.5 or better), and making satisfactory progress.Eligible candidates will be full-time, first-generation college students ("first-generation" meaning that student and/or their siblings are the first in their family line that will attend or, with respect to a sibling, have graduated from a university) or are from historically underrepresented student populations.Eligible candidates will have full-time enrollment as an undergraduate student at an accredited nonprofit post-secondary trade school, college, or university in the United States or Puerto Rico.The student must attend a public or private college or university in the United States or Puerto Rico that is tax exempt under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.All awards will be made without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or sexual identification.

Ineligibility

Employees of the Foundation, members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, and their dependents, members of the selection committee and their dependents, employees of the Detroit Tigers Foundation and their dependents, employees and directors of the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and their dependents, dependents of Miguel and Rosangel Cabrera, and lineal descendants of Miguel and Rosangel Cabrera's grandparents are ineligible for scholarship consideration.
