Legacy Grants for Student Health

Overview: An invitation-only initiative launched in 2017 that awards annual grants to selected school districts and charter schools across the bi-state Kansas City region to support school-based programs that directly impact student health and wellness.

Geographic Scope: Bi-state Kansas City region (Kansas and Missouri)

Eligibility:

  • School districts and charter schools with significant free or reduced-cost school lunch enrollment

  • Invitation-only program
  • Focus Areas:

  • Asthma assessment and treatment supplies

  • Health screening equipment

  • Emergency response training and supplies

  • Mental health intervention training

  • Disease mitigation equipment and supplies

  • Vaping prevention and cessation

  • Vaccination education and immunization support

  • Over $1.8 million awarded since 2017

  • Expanded to 13 districts and five charter schools

  • Tens of thousands of students, faculty, and staff served

  • 2024-2025 round benefits nearly 100,000 students

    Background: Since inception in 2017, LGSH has invested over $1.5 million into area schools. In 2020, nearly $100,000 was awarded for pandemic relief efforts.
