Mission Statement

The J & E Berkley Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life in greater Charlottesville and its contiguous counties in Central Virginia by supporting programs that help people, nature, conservation – animals and the arts. The foundation will be attracted to ideas and agencies where measurable success can be identified and tracked.

Founded at the Dawn of the New Millenium

The J & E Berkley Foundation seeks to fund programs which better the community through education, conservation and the promotion of a civil society.

Our Emphasis is on Prevention and Interdiction

In an effort to provide a healthy and a vibrant community. It is our goal to encourage and support an integrated community encompassing social programs that help people, nature, conservation – animal and the arts.

Grants will be awarded two times per year. Based on the need, merit, and contributions of the programs, as determined by the Board of Directors. Proposals will be considered for startups, operating expenses for new and existing programs, as well as repeat funding. Innovation is encouraged.

* Any individual or organization may submit a grant proposal, provided they possess a non-for-profit tax –exempt status.
* What geographic area does the Foundation serve?

* Charlottesville, and it’s contiguous counties in Central Virginia.

Ineligibility

* Projects which are designed to promote a specific political or religious agenda will not be considered.
