Summer Grant Cycle- Phalia M. and Guy M. Kinder Fund

The Phalia M. and Guy M. Kinder Fund, administered by the Community Foundation Serving Western Virginia, focuses on grants for organizations that prevent animal cruelty, advance medical research for animal diseases, educate caretakers, and promote human-animal relationships. Eligible organizations must serve specific cities and counties in Virginia. The fund does not support capital campaigns or individual requests, ensuring that resources effectively aid the community's animals and their caretakers.

Community foundations began nationally in 1914 and are publicly-supported, 501(c)(3) philanthropic organizations that hold, administer, invest and make grants from both endowed and non-endowed funds established by individuals, families and others.
Today, we administer many hundreds of named endowment funds ranging in size from a minimum of $10,000 to millions of dollars.

Eligibility

Who is Eligible to Receive a Grant from the Foundation?
The Foundation supports qualified nonprofit organizations primarily in the cities of Roanoke, Salem and Martinsville, and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt, Craig, Henry, Patrick and Franklin.Foundation grants are usually awarded for the accomplishment of a definite purpose within a specified time period - normally not more than one year.

Ineligibility

The Foundation's discretionary funds typically do not support deficit reduction, capital campaigns or endowments, fundraising events, sectarian, fraternal or religious programs, or individuals.
