Overview

Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund (ILHAF)

Status: Program was reopened as of the date announced in the second article (2022-2023 timeframe). Based on the website content dated 2026-04-03, the current status of this program is unclear as the most recent reopening had a deadline of January 31, 2023.

Geographic Scope: Illinois (statewide)

Focus Areas:

  • Past-due mortgage payments

  • Property taxes

  • Property insurance

  • Homeowner and/or condo association fees
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 30 days late on one or more of: mortgage loan, property tax, property insurance, and/or HOA/condo association fee payments

  • Household income at or below 150% Area Median Income (AMI)

  • Own and occupy a home in Illinois as a primary residence

  • Experienced a financial hardship after January 21, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic (including hardships that began before but continued after this date)

  • Proof of citizenship is NOT required

  • Receiving ILHAF will NOT affect immigration status or result in public charge determination
  • Required Documentation:

  • Proof of identification (driver's license, state ID, permanent residency card, or other form of ID)

  • Proof of household income (tax returns, pay stubs, or other documentation)

  • Proof of occupancy (bank statement, cell phone bill, credit/debit card statement, or other documentation)

  • Proof of ownership (property tax bill, property deed, or other documentation)

  • Delinquency statement (mortgage statement, property tax statement, insurance statement, or HOA/Condo Association statement)
  • What They Fund: Direct payments to mortgage servicers, taxing bodies, or other eligible entities for approved applications
